I want a new sink or faucet in my home but I don’t want to do it myself.  What options do I have?

Many home improvement centers promote do-it-yourself installation and some homeowners may be able to do just that.  However, our experience has shown that some projects are better left to the professionals.  What is your time worth? We can complete the job faster and provide recommendations about fixtures, faucets and more.  Panacea Plumbing provides quality installation and upgrades of sinks, toilets, laundry tubs, laundry hook ups, bathtubs, whirlpool tubs, showers, all kinds of faucets, garbage disposals and more.

What do I do if my garbage disposal jams?

If you can't see what is jamming your garbage disposal, call a professional. Utensils or tools can cause serious damage to the disposal motor, your home electrical system or even personal injury. Panacea Plumbing can often fix a jammed garbage disposal. If it needs replacement, Panacea Plumbing's experts can provide product and installation options that suit your needs and budget.

How do I know if I have a broken water line or major leak outside my house?

Excessively high water bills, puddles in your yard or the sound of running water when no faucets or appliances are on are common indications of broken water pipes or lines. Panacea Plumbing technicians use special technology to identify the source of a leak so it can be repaired quickly.

What do I do if my sump pump fails?

The primary cause of sump pump failure is usually a switching problem. Debris can also be a factor by interfering with the action of the pump switch. It is important to make sure that your pump switch and float arm assembly move freely. Whether or not they are ever used, sump pumps do need to be replaced every few years. Panacea Plumbing can test, maintain or replace any brand of sump pump.  For flood prone areas and homes that get water seepage on a regular basis, sump pump back up systems are available.  Some sump pumps are non-electric systems that work in the case of a power failure.

What causes low water pressure and what can I do about it?

Many things can cause low water pressure, including a partially closed or malfunctioning shut off valve, a crimped water line, deposits that gather in older galvanized pipes or even problems with your municipality's public water system. If your neighbors have strong water pressure, the problem is most likely between the water meter and your home. Our trained, Panacea Plumbing technicians can identify the problem and explain your options.

Why is a water softening system beneficial?

"Hard" water contains large concentrations of minerals which can damage clothing in the laundry, contribute to pipe scaling, faucet and fixture deterioration, skin irritation and sensitivities, or undesirable tastes or odors in your water.  Panacea Plumbing sells and installs a selection of water softening systems to protect your home and your skin.

What is a "Tankless" Water Heater?

Conventional water heaters are large tanks that range in size from 20 to 80 gallons and are fueled by electricity, natural gas, propane, or oil.  These are the most common type of hot water heaters in the U.S.  A conventional water heater uses energy even when no hot water is being used.

Tankless water heaters do not contain a storage tank. A gas burner or electric element heats the water only when there is a demand for hot water. A tankless water heater can be more convenient than waiting for water to heat up through a faucet since hot water is instantly available. Instant hot water has the added advantage of conserving water and saving you money on water usage. Tankless systems may be installed in an existing home although some older homes may require modifications to accommodate the system. Panacea Plumbing can provide expert guidance and options for both conventional and tankless hot water systems.

I am getting a foul odor from a bathroom in the basement. What could be causing this?

Plumbing systems contain "traps" that use water to seal out foul odors from the sewer system. If a sink or tub is used infrequently, the water seal can evaporate, allowing odors to enter the house. This problem may be solved by pouring water in each trap, sink, shower and floor drain or allowing the water to run for a few minutes. This will restore the water seal and prevent the odors from entering the house. If the odors persist, call a professional. A vent could be blocked or parts may need replacement.

I have a foul odor coming from my garbage disposer. What can I do to eliminate this odor?

A buildup of food debris within the disposer creates bacteria buildup and odor. Place ice cubes and lemon or orange peels in the disposer and run for 30 seconds. Next, squirt a little liquid dish detergent into the disposer while it is still running. Finally, run cold water for about 30 seconds to rinse all the debris away. Another option is to pour a cup of vinegar into the disposer & allow to sit for a few minutes. Add a few tablespoons of baking soda and a bit more vinegar and allow the mixture to foam. After a few minutes, run water down the drain to clear the debris.

What is causing the thumping sounds in our hot water heater?

Those sounds are an indication sediment has built up on the bottom of the water heater. The thumping sound is boiling water trapped in the sediment. Sediment will not allow the heat to transfer to the water in the tank, which sends the heat up the flue, reducing its efficiency. Draining hot water from a tank can be messy and sometimes dangerous if not done correctly. When in doubt, call a professional. Many newer models of water heaters have a new feature that prohibits sediment buildup in the tank. It may be cost effective to replace your old hot water heater if buildup is a problem.

I am hearing an intermittent whistle sound that seems to be connected to the plumbing system. What's going on?

The sound you are describing is usually caused by a toilet fill valve that is slowly leaking. To locate the leaking toilet, remove the lid of each toilet tank and adjust the fill valve mechanism until it stops. Once you have found the toilet causing the problem, repair or replace the fill valve. Bleach tablets and age can wear out toilet mechanical systems, requiring replacement. Panacea Plumbing offers affordable maintenance and repair services for all plumbing fixtures and systems.
